Meet The Boss
Why should someone hire The Renovation Boss to work on their home?
I'm a proven professional with customer satisfaction as my only goal. There are a lot of good renovators available, but to maximize your impact for a future home sale, you should rely on someone that is both a renovator and a Realtor.
What is a common misconception in your industry?
The biggest misconception is that you get what you pay for... this isn't true. There are terrible renovators that charge too much and some great ones that charge too little.
What are your favorite kinds of projects to complete?
My favorite projects are the ones that change the lives of my client. Maybe it's simply painting that makes them happy with the way the room looks, or fixing something that has annoyed them for a while. It's the reaction of the client that fuels my desire to do great work.
What are you working on at your own home at the moment (or what's next on your To Do list)?
I'm nearly done with the first of two bathrooms. This one has been both fun and rewarding as I let my 12 year old choose most of the design features. It's enlightening to see what a different person focuses on for their specific needs and wants.
Your career spans business and remodeling, how does that help you in this industry?
Having an MBA has been a blessing and a curse. I analyze material needs, costs, everything... sometimes it becomes analysis paralysis! However, it also helps with contracts, the legalities of negotiations and communicating effectively with different types of people.
You're a licensed Realtor, which isn't common for a remodeler, why did you do that?
My company's focus was to prepare homes for sale to get the best price in the shortest time. Clients would have me estimate their pricing, review inspection reports, even tour other potential properties to which they might move. I was already doing some of the work of a realtor so it was a natural progression to add the ability to be my client's Realtor as well as their General Contractor if necessary.
What do you do for fun?
I am one of the lucky people since I love what I do. It really is fun for me much more of the time than it isn't! When I'm not working, most of my time is spent with my kids, coaching their respective teams and trying to find something the family can all agree upon to do. I also spend time at the Y, where I pick up very heavy things and put them back down.
